Are you building integrations for clients, or for your own product? Client integrations carry implicit SLAs around uptime and currency that can surprise teams who didn't price that in.
The third-party API ecosystem is not converging toward simplicity. More providers means more variation in authentication, versioning strategy, and schema conventions. The companies that handle this well tend to make a deliberate decision early: invest in infrastructure to manage integrations as a product, with dedicated capacity for monitoring and maintenance, or find a layer that handles the variation for them. The teams that don't make that decision eventually find themselves with a growing connector list, an expanding maintenance backlog, and diminishing capacity to ship anything else.
