Embedded Finance Companies Landscape 2026

Last updated: April 2026 · Data sourced from Open Banking Tracker by Apideck · 250+ providers mapped across 17 categories

We're running a survey on the state of embedded finance, together with Embedded Finance Review. If you work in or around embedded finance, your perspective matters. Every participant receives a copy of the Embedded Finance Report when it's published. Take the survey here.

Non-financial companies are now the ones offering bank accounts, credit lines, and insurance — not by applying for banking licences, but by calling APIs. This page maps 250+ embedded finance companies and providers across 17 categories, from BaaS and card issuing down to ledger infrastructure, compliance tooling, and earned wage access.

Embedded finance ≠ open banking. Embedded finance platforms sit on top of a separate financial-data-connectivity layer (Plaid, TrueLayer, Codat, Apideck) which runs on rails like open banking, ACH, and the card networks.

How providers were selected: This landscape covers API-first providers offering embeddable financial products to platforms and developers. Providers were sourced from the Open Banking Tracker, cross-referenced against funding data, active product pages, and developer documentation. Providers that have shut down, been fully absorbed into parent products, or no longer maintain public API access are excluded.

The Market in Numbers

The global embedded finance market was $148 billion in 2025, growing to $197 billion in 2026 at ~31.5% CAGR (Precedence Research). Grand View Research projects $588 billion by 2030. Payments account for the largest share (29-39%), but lending, payroll, and compliance are growing fastest. B2B now dominates over B2C. North America holds ~33% of global revenue; Asia-Pacific is the fastest-growing region.

Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS)

48 providers

These are the leading banking-as-a-service providers — the infrastructure layer that lets fintechs, brands, and vertical SaaS platforms offer regulated banking products via API, skipping the multi-year process of obtaining a banking licence. The market was ~$29 billion in 2026, projected to reach $65 billion by 2031 (Mordor Intelligence). Regulatory pressure on single-bank-partner models has pushed fintechs toward multi-bank networks (Treasury Prime, Synctera), developer-native chartered banks (Column, Griffin), and cloud-native European platforms (Swan, Solaris, Vodeno).

The category covers modern issuing-as-a-service (Marqeta, Lithic, Highnote), global processors (Galileo, i2c, Thredd), and specialists in fleet (WEX), prepaid (Netspend), co-branded credit (Cardless, Imprint), and card-linked data (Fidel API).

Lending

34 providers

Embedded lending is where the vertical SaaS monetisation thesis is most tangible: platforms with transaction data have better underwriting inputs than most banks. The category covers B2B BNPL, revenue-based financing, invoice financing, merchant cash advance, and point-of-sale consumer credit. Kanmon, Defacto, and Finmid target the vertical SaaS motion directly. Parafin focuses on marketplace sellers and counts DoorDash and Amazon among its customers. LoanPro and Canopy Servicing handle the back-office servicing layer. Apideck's business lending and loan underwriting integration guide covers how lenders connect to accounting and banking data to power underwriting workflows.

AP/AR & Invoicing

8 providers

For vertical SaaS serving SMBs, AP/AR automation is a direct monetisation opportunity. Platforms already inside the invoicing and bill-pay workflow can capture those economics directly rather than deferring to QuickBooks or BILL. Monite (acquired by OakNorth) proved the model in Europe; BILL has expanded aggressively into the embedded channel. For a deeper look at how platforms are automating these workflows, see Apideck's guide to accounts payable automation.

Financial Data Connectivity

19 providers

This is the layer most embedded finance products depend on but rarely discuss: account linking, bank data aggregation, and unified API connectivity. It is also the most directly shaped by regulation — PSD2 in Europe, CFPB Section 1033 in the US, and analogous frameworks elsewhere. Plaid defines the US consumer account linking market. TrueLayer and Yapily lead European open banking. Codat and Rutter focus on accounting and commerce data for lenders. Bank feeds — the automated flow of transaction data from bank accounts into accounting platforms — are one of the core use cases this connectivity layer enables.

This is the category where Apideck sits. Apideck's Unified API lets SaaS products connect to accounting platforms, HRIS systems, CRMs, and more through a single integration — without building and maintaining each connector separately.

What to Watch

Sponsor bank risk is reshaping BaaS. OCC and FDIC enforcement actions since 2023 have pushed regulators to scrutinise third-party risk at bank sponsors. The US consent orders against Evolve Bank and others have already caused fintech programmes to scramble for new bank partners. The practical pressure is toward developer-native chartered banks like Column and Griffin, which don't carry the same programme-dependency risk.

Vertical SaaS now treats embedded payments as baseline, not differentiator. The question at Series B is no longer whether to offer payments, but which embedded finance stack to use. Investor decks from 2025-2026 vertical SaaS raises consistently include payment take-rate and lending attachment as projected revenue lines. Payfac-as-a-service adoption (Rainforest, Tilled, Finix) is accelerating fastest in healthcare, field services, and property management.

B2B BNPL and embedded lending are in a consolidation phase. Parafin, Kanmon, Defacto, and Finmid have each demonstrated product-market fit with specific platform types. The next phase is distribution scale — which ones can get into enough platforms to build underwriting moats from data volume.

CFPB Section 1033 is a growth catalyst for Financial Data Connectivity. Final rules requiring US banks to share consumer financial data on request are pushing fintechs to upgrade from screen-scraping to credentialed APIs. Expect Plaid, Finicity, MX, and Apideck to benefit directly as platforms upgrade their data access infrastructure through 2026.

Stablecoins are graduating from crypto rails to enterprise payment infrastructure. US GENIUS Act and EU MiCA frameworks are giving enterprises regulatory cover to use stablecoins for settlement. Brale and Bastion are the providers most directly positioned to serve financial institutions wanting faster, cheaper cross-border settlement than SWIFT.

AI agents are reshaping how embedded finance products are built and used. From autonomous underwriting to intelligent reconciliation, AI agents in fintech are moving from prototype to production across lending, compliance, and financial data workflows.
