Their tool keeps back-office accounting systems synchronized with online selling channels, primarily helping wholesalers sync orders from their accounting system to shipping tools. ## The Challenge Joseph Anderson, Owner of Connex Commerce, has long recognized that integrations are essential to their business. Since starting the company in 2010, they have built up 15 years of experience in automating data entry and have supported more than 5,000 customers. In 2022, they began searching for an embedded Integration Platform as a Service (IPaaS) solution to expand beyond [QuickBooks](https://www.apideck.com/connectors/quickbooks). However, at that time, every available option either presented technical issues or came with prohibitive pricing. During this period, Connex also accumulated significant technical debt and began deactivating some integrations, including eBay. At their peak, they were supporting approximately 40 integrations, which became increasingly difficult to maintain. By 2025, as potential customers continued requesting additional integrations, Connex revisited its search for a suitable embedded IPaaS provider. Unfortunately, the initial options still fell short. Some vendors charged high fees, while others offered limited accounting solutions. Many had integrations that generated errors during testing, but this changed when they discovered Apideck. ## The Solution From Joseph Anderson, often, "there was no documentation or code samples in my programming language, which was a challenge. But Apideck had a C Sharp SDK. They had a program in my language, well-documented with plenty of good code samples, and I got it to work relatively quickly." Joe acknowledges there are other solutions available, but they don't have as many accounting integrations or they're not as focused as Apideck. "They'll say, 'Yes, we integrate with Sage,' but then their Sage integration doesn't work or doesn't do certain things. It's kind of misleading. Many companies don't focus on [accounting systems](https://www.apideck.com/accounting-api), and that's why I chose Apideck." Ease of use has been a huge component as well. Integrations can be turned on and off easily, and they don't have to build out a whole new user interface for every single one. So far, the Connex team has been very happy that leveraging Apideck eliminates a lot of the front-end user interface work that would otherwise be necessary. ## Apideck's Impact By integrating with nine different platforms in just four to six weeks, Connex implemented these new connectors 10 times faster and at one-fifth of the cost. A project that could have cost over $100,000 was completed for much less in developer time and effort. The company successfully rebranded to Connex Commerce in a short period, expanding their offerings across multiple accounting services. Developer training has become more efficient because Apideck uses a single code base instead of nine separate integrations. This has also simplified software testing and support staff training. Their user interface is now much more streamlined: "We just log in to Apideck, click the connector button, and it turns on and appears in our UI. I don't have to build out a whole user interface and OAuth flow for every connector, which saves us a lot of work." ## Looking Forward While Connex still has more integrations to build, they expect rapid progress going forward. ## Tips for Scaling Accounting Integrations in E-Commerce Automation Tip 1 β€” Avoid building separate codebases for each accounting platform: Every native accounting integration adds its own authentication flow, data model, and maintenance overhead. E-commerce automation tools that sync orders, invoices, and payments across platforms should maintain a single codebase that works across multiple accounting systems to keep developer training, testing, and support manageable. Tip 2 β€” Test the depth of each accounting connector before committing: Many integration providers claim to support platforms like Sage or NetSuite, but the actual data coverage may be shallow or unreliable. Verify that each connector handles your specific sync use cases, such as creating invoices, mapping tax codes, or reconciling payments, before going live with customers. Tip 3 β€” Eliminate the front-end UI burden for each new connector: Building OAuth flows and configuration screens for every accounting platform is a hidden cost that compounds as you scale. An embedded authentication and connector management layer lets you activate new platforms without rebuilding your user interface each time, which is critical when supporting dozens of accounting systems.
